We recognize that learners have a range of abilities and learn at different rates. Some students need more challenge or they may become bored, while some students need learning support to help them develop. In response, REPS is expanding upon current programs to meet a broader range of mixed ability classes.
For students of high ability in M1 and M2, we offer enrichment learning in both Math and Science. These classes provide challenge and enrichment for learners and allow students to explore their passions.
REPS is a member of the Bangkok Enriched Educators Network (BEEN) along with top International Schools in the Bangkok area. This group provides collaborative professional development for teachers to improve their skills to support strong learners. REPS has also participated in student workshops as part of BEEN. Students feedback these were great activities to work with students at other schools. The words they used were, “interesting”, “challenging”, “friendly” and “fun”.
To expand upon concepts of enriched learning, REPS teachers are working together in Primary and Secondary to develop better approaches for supporting the entire mixed ability classroom through differentiated instruction.
Gifted & Talented (GATE) Program
The 2015-2016 academic year saw REPS Secondary introduce the Gifted & Talented (GATE) Program. This new program at REPS offers learners expanded learning opportunities in selected subjects.
The goal is clear – to offer strong learners an environment that will enable greater growth in their education. This will open better higher education opportunities in Thailand and other countries and lead to more promising career possibilities.
Working with other strong learners empowers students to be more involved in their growth and learning. Close group activity and learner-centered discovery are keys to learning in the GATE Program. Selected learners for this program are self-motivated, persistent, curious, creative and intuitive. These characteristics form the basis to becoming problem solvers and cognitive thinkers – critical skills for success in their careers according to the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) representing over 100 countries.
In its second year, REPS Secondary is currently delivering GATE to specially chosen Mattayom 1 and Mattayom 2 students in English Maths and English Science.
Student Editorial and Photography Team
REPS monthly "REPS Connect" is being published to keep you informed of events, activities, and news from around the school. We want parents, guardians and members of REPS to be kept up to date with all that is going on in our school. However, none of this would be possible without the hardworking Editorial Team of REPS Secondary.
The team currently comprises of seven Upper Secondary students. These students have the responsibility of conducting interviews, taking photos, gathering information, and writing articles to be published monthly. In addition to helping with writing skills, students also learn about journalism. All articles are then edited by their English teacher before publication in the monthly newsletters.
Secondary Peer Tutoring Program
Students from the Upper Secondary Arts & Languages Program have the opportunity to work with their younger peers in Kindergarten, helping them to become better readers. The aim of the project is two folded. First, the project aims at providing the secondary students with a means of reviewing the process of reading, beginning with phonics and blends. Second, the kindergarten students receive some extra reading support, reinforcing alphabet recognition and phonics in the first semester, and then going on to reading in the second semester. With a ratio of 3 kindergarten students to each secondary student, and with 50 minutes of extra English tutoring every week, everyone
