A Student Representative Council is a representative structure for all the students in the school. It provides students with the opportunity to become involved in the affairs of the school and work in partnership with School Management, staff, and even the community.

Mission Statement

The REPS Secondary Student Representative Council's mission is to provide support and strength to our student body and the local community.

Aims

The aims of the REPS Student Representative Council are:

  • To act as a voice for the student body
  • To encourage participation in whole-school activities and events (e.g. Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, Family Day, Children’s Day, Science Week, Sports Day etc.)
  • To assist on matters concerning the welfare of the REPS student body
  • To provide a forum for discussion of opinions/options/suggestions to put to School Management
  • To provide opportunities for leadership
  • To support ventures of all Department’s within REPS
  • To help decide on school trips/excursions
  • To support community initiatives and charities
  • To fundraise money for school projects/events/chosen charities
  • To assist with whole school health and safety awareness and approach (e.g. monitoring of student bus/van safety by the Student Bus (safety) Reps. whom report weekly)

Joining the REPS Student Representative Council

Who should join?

Student council members are:

  • usually long-term students who have demonstrated commitment and leadership to the school through the core values – knowledge, leadership, and/or character
  • interested in learning about meeting procedures and managing ventures
  • various personality types – help is always needed and there is a job for everyone in the Student Representative Council
  • good at/wants to improve their listening, speaking, and negotiation skills
  • able to can meet deadlines and prioritize their time
  • responsible for their actions
  • capable of sharing and delegating workload by taking on responsibility for the planning and organisation of activities and events
  • able to work well with others, are interested in student welfare and demonstrate respect for the school community as a whole
